Wild Belle are brother-sister duo Elliot and Natalie Bergman from Chicago. A buzz grew round them earlier in the year with their self-released debut single “Keep You.” I however only stubbled upon them about a month or so ago and was struck instantly by their pop/reggae influences that would suite in nicely for a summer vibe, unfortunately for me in Scotland it already feels like winter, however this has not dampened my joy of their latest release "Backslider". The video for their new release was shot in their back garden with a white sheet, a projector and the very beautiful Natalie, making it hard to take your eyes off the screen. Hopefully they will be hitting the uk sometime soon and bring some sunshine joy with them. Now signed to major label Columbia Records, all tracks below will be featured on the band’s forthcoming debut album Isles, which is scheduled for an early 2013 release.

Tom Vek

Graveyard
So a month or so a go i was looking through Monorail for some new music and i came across a cd with a sticker on it which read "For fans of Led Zeppelin". The band where Graveyard and the album Hisingen Blues, my first reaction to this sticker was what a desperate attempted to get people to buy their album, it felt like too much of a "please buy me sign" so i checked out the name of the band and quickly moved on.
later that week however i was messing about online and thought why not check out that band and see if they really where up to much, or did they fall in with the millions of other throwback bands, who just cause they don't fall into the modern fold with electro synth running along a indie beat that they can try and call on the retro classic rock card. Many bands have tried the sound like Zeppelin trick and when you check them out, they are just some pish try hard, it makes you sceptical about and stickers like this, but to my pleasure Graveyard are the exception.
From the moment the video for Hisingen Blues starts you feel that you are in for the real deal, the grainy black and white low lighting of the video really makes you think that this was shot back in the late 60s, for a moment i wondered if this band really are current or not. From Zeppelin to Black Sabbath and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Graveyard certainly let you hear their influences but still pull it all off without sounding dated. They go from from mellow blues of "Uncomfortably Numb" to the heavy rock of "Hisingen Blues" to just a good old classic rock groove of "RSS".
Hisingen Blues has certainly been my album of 2011 so far and and i will be keepig a close eye on the band, hopefully they will be heading to Glasgow soon enough.

Normandy
67 years ago today one of the greatest military operation that ever took place occurred, D Day. On the morning of the 6th of June 1944 the Allies opened up a second front against the Germans to begin the long and bloody march to Berlin. A couple of years back i visited Normandy and what a great experience it was.You really start to get an idea of the scale of the operation and the courage it must have taken to attack such bunkers. If you ever get the chance to go to Normandy make sure you go.

Luis Cerveró, Nicolás Méndez and Lope Serrano come from similar artistic backgrounds and decided to join forces in 2008 to enhance and develop their personal take on filmmaking.
Since Canada's inception, they have established themselves as Spain's most desired and sought after music video directors, working for almost every independent label and groundbreaking artist. Actually the reason this blog is called Bombay is after the El Guincho song "Bombay", great video full of stunning imagery and woman, it seems to work for the internet generation, the ones who like to flick channel/web sites every couple of seconds.
They have just recently finished work on The Vaccines newest video "All In White" and although i'm not that taken by the song or the Vaccines for that matter, (nothing to do with the hype) i noticed that it had to be the guys from Canada with a hand on this video, it had their prints all over it. So i thought i would give you a few videos of theirs for you're viewing pleasure.

Gil Scott-Heron
It's never good to wake up in the morning and check out what's happening in twitter world and seeing all these R.I.P's. But when its someone that's music meant so much to you through the years it adds another tinge of sadness. Through my college years he sound tracked some great nights and just recently when he released "I'm New Here" he once again became my artist of the moment, with this retrospective album to his drug addiction, ego and general hard times.
I was lucky enough to see him at Electric Picnic festival last summer, what a gig it was too, full of the funky grooves you would expect and the rasping voice that had weathered well through the years. I gig i will never forget.

Pokey LaFarge

A great set from Pokey LaFarge with his band "The South City Three" who accompany him on his album "Riverboat Soul", which i just got in through the post the other day. This infectious mix of American jazz, swing and country blues was the perfect sound to go with the sunny weather recently so just had to buy it. The St. Louis musician has just recently signed to Jack White's Third Man Records for his next album, so i will be keeping a close eye to see how things progress here.

Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right (Revisited)
The Beastie Boys have gone and delivered a belting 30min extended video as a sequel to the original "(You gotta) Fight for your right (to party)". This video came out to commemorate 25 years since the original release and comes with an all star cast of Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black who play older and younger versions of Beastie Boys Mike D, Ad-Rock, and MCA.
There are also cameos from Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Rainn Wilson, Ted Danson, Steve Buscemi, Will Arnett, Kirsten Dunst and David Cross to name just a few.

The Black Keys
Has there been a more consistent rock band around in the last ten years than The Black Keys? After the release of Brothers in 2010, their sixth studio album they have well and truly broke through to the mainstream, with the album selling just over 70,000 copies in its first week and coming in at number 3 on the billboard album charts. The album went on to win 3 Grammys at this years awards which is a great achievement, although i found out they handed out 109 awards at the show this year, nice way to make everyone feel like a winner/loser.
Anyway here is their new video/trailer to "Howlin' For You". If anyone has seen the start of Tarantino's Grindhouse they will have seen a trailer to a film Machete which later became a feature film, which if you haven't already seen make sure you do. Bad ass mexican (Danny Trejo) goes around killing lots of folk while flanked by Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriquez now if that doesn't some up a good film i don't know what does. So here is The Black Keys nod to Machete.
